We are Pax
 
​We are a group of friends who met studying a masters in international politics and decided to create Pax because we believe our skills in political research can be used to highlight ideas that are neglected, under researched or inadequately scrutinised throughout the saturated field of political journalism.
​
Today, media centred political journalism is largely bankrolled by billionaires and conglomerates who are incentivised by a combination of commercial and political emphasises that results in a media ecosystem that is built not to inform, but to provoke. Overwhelmingly political journalism has become reactionary, sensationalist and riddled with misinformation. Content has become engineered for clicks rather than comprehension, meaning our collective attention is fragmented and  siphoned across a myriad of destinations until our capacity for engagement is exhausted. Together, we are left oscillating between mania and apathy, between outrage and indifference.

Our academic training highlighted an alternative pathway, by emphasising the the importance of critical analysis, rigorous research, and ideas debated in lieu of a diversity of opinions. However, our university experiences revealed an uncomfortable truth: the ideas so extensively analysed are largely unaccessible to the wider population due to the style, language and availability of academia. Consequently, there is a gap between academic thought and public discourse which is not accidental. Those who control the bulk of the media ensure the shallowness of political news, as an informed and critically engaged public is harder to manipulate and harder to govern without accountability.

This is the problem Pax was built to address. We sit at the intersection of journalism and academia to realise a specific goal. We are committed to producing a political media environment that rejects the role of existing outlets in acting as the mouthpieces of elites and perpetuating division. We believe knowledge has an emancipatory capacity that is not the sole right of political, business or academic elites, but instead knowledge is for the people. Accountability, accessibility, and truth are not niche concerns. They are the foundations of an informed public life, and in a world where they are increasingly hard to find, we think they are worth fighting for.

​​Our future is not yet written, and if we wish for it to remain our future we are obliged to be the ones who write it.
Our lives shall not be scripted from a data centre, or proclaimed from the mouth of a trillionaire.
We the people shall mandate our future and our voices shall write our history.
